Day 10 . 07. 28.10

July 29, 2010

Paper: An old hand out from an art history class explaining the Bauhaus curriculum

Materials: Cyanotype bleeds , pen, frustration.

It reads ( roughly)

“Did you know Bauhaus was in fact the main inspiration of not only Harder Hall but the influence and driving force of Freshman Foundations and the whole art program at Alfred for that matter. What is ironic about all of this is that this piece of paper, this very piece of paper which is a detailed diagram of the art curriculum at Bauhaus is what made me do poorly on an exam given at Alfred the very school that is modeled after Bauhaus”

Half inside joke with my friend. 100% truth.

Day 9. 07.27.2010

July 28, 2010

Paper: Graph paper with cyanotype bleeds

Materials: paper, box cutter, spray paint, double stick tape.

Made a stencil today… I wish I was more graphic…in general

Day 8 . 07.26.2010

July 27, 2010

Paper: newsprint ( with old cyanotype stains from a previous entry)

Materials : a cut out from an old James Stewart book I saved from the dumpster, markers, glue stick, scissors.

Day 7. 07. 25.2010

July 26, 2010

paper: cheap canvas pad

materials : pencil. a marker set that I bought but never use

I have an obsession with backs. His looks a bit femmy to me still.. and his hands and twisted profile are all wrong..but honestly it was 10:30 at night and relized I hadnt done my drawing excersize of the day…

( I will always have an excuse)

I have noticed that my dates on my blog are wrong. I think it has me in a different time zone, thus screwing up my dates. My dates that I post in the title are right I swear that I am not cheating. Does anyone know how to fix?

Day 6. 07.24.10

July 25, 2010

Paper: yupo

Materials: an old ( incorrectly done) emulsion lift from a 3 1/4x 4 1/4 polaroid I took . and a glue stick

so the aftermath of me soaking the cyanotype paper showed through today ; it bled through to half of the pages of my sketchbook.. so do not be alarmed by the blue on the left side of my entries for the next week and half ( or more.

Day 5 07.23.10

July 24, 2010

Paper : blue old cyanotype chemistry( messed up and stained) on arches?( or stonehedge, I tend to be cheap and only use arches when I score some for free)

Materials: water, straw, water soluble crayons charcoal

my intent was to use the water as a “reverse drawing” so to speak and remove the chemistry from the paper leaving a wicked cool composition left behind.

However I got a little heavy handed with the water and it soaked up much of the chemistry ( you can only see a little bit of left in the photo) so then I busted out the crayons and went wild. ehh ( shrugs shoulders) tomorrows another day

Day 4 07.22.2010

July 22, 2010

Paper- tracing paper

materials – blind contour done with pen, watercolor, and coffee,

I do enjoy the ol’ blind contour. its something different

‘Paper’- recycled paper bag

Materials- charcoal, chalk pastel, found water soluble crayons, spray fixative.

So I have a roommate for the summer…

a taxadermied rooster

its my roommates from college, a four dollar find at the antique store. I offered to give him a place to stay for the summer.

follow him on facebook, he is bound to be the only fergus chuckelton around….

Day 2. 07.20.2010

July 21, 2010

Detail

‘Paper’ -Acetate

Materials- an old eye liner pencil, thread ( both machine and hand stitching) and sharpie.

my plan was to make this art nuevo  meets colorful  acrylics, but instead I wallowed in self pity and refused to add color ( I don”t have enough space to create as my bedroom serves as both sleeping quarters and studio space ) After I added some bookshelves to my  cramped space with help from mi padre I feel a bit better about things ( that and the fact millions have it worse than me and I have no need to complain) Hopefully tomorrows entry is more ….positive, and one that I am not completely embarrassed about.

No Excuses

July 19, 2010

Im not going to ramble on for a paragraph explaining how busy i’ve been or justifing why ” I haven’t blogged in quite some time”

Its life, everyone is busy.

However I have a new project that has been bouncing around the ol’ cranium that will not only force me to blog, but draw….

Every

Single

Day.

Its taken me quite sometime to understand myself , but I have learned I work best with deadlines and schedules. I am attempting to get the ‘creative juices’ a-flowing, as it were , and just let loose, make mistakes, and use crayons again. So I made a sketchbook, for green friendly folks out there this thing is one HUNDRED percent recycled. Take a gander…

The front and back covers are made with records found at Alfred U’s Repo ( a free material exchange for students) The guts (“paper”) of this thing is comprised of : newspaper, acetate, reclaimed yupo, paper bag, canvas pad, canvas, old photos, phonebook pages, and old chemically enhanced arches paper ( thanks to taking alternative process)  …just to name a few

old cyanotype paper

canvas/newspaper

I had originally planned to start this project in June, and had 77 pages cut to size ( one for each day before I went back to school) However the date got pushed back a few times, Im not sure how many pages exactly are in this thing. But im not stoping till Im through…for once.

Bound using found gaffers tape and binders thread.

As always I will be taking some tips from the ‘bob ross ‘ of sketchbooks : Keri Smith. Just like my “Wreck this journal ( which as seen below, rests in two pieces now after turning to the page “make a sudden destructive movement with the journal”) I want to push my preconceived notions of what a sketchbook should look like, and just unwind a bit.

its like I have two 'Wreck this Journal' now!

So ya’ll stay tuned now I think/hope exciting things will happen And for those who cant wait …SPOILER ALERT : tomorrows page is acetate!
